The open day for students of the Faculty of Biology of Al-Farabi KazNU was held at the Institute of Zoology of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan

Students became acquainted with one of the oldest research institutes in the country, which recently celebrated its 90th anniversary. The Institute of Zoology is the principal zoological research organization in the Republic of Kazakhstan, coordinating and conducting both fundamental and applied studies on the nation’s wildlife.

During their tour of the Institute, the students visited several research laboratories, where they acquired a great deal of new, useful, and fascinating information. Our staff explained the work and research specialties of each laboratory, the modern methods they apply, and spoke about the day-to-day life of a zoologist, achievements and discoveries, and much more.

“We had no idea there was so much interesting stuff here!” – comments of this kind could frequently be heard from first-year students (and not only them) during the tour and while viewing the collection materials in the laboratories of Entomology, Paleozoology, Ornithology and Herpetology, Parasitology, and so on.

For our part, we are always delighted to see visitors who are interested in scientific research. Observing the spark in their eyes, hearing many questions, and seeing grateful smiles and genuine enthusiasm – all of this strongly motivates us to continue our activities aimed at promoting zoology, drawing attention to the study and preservation of Kazakhstan’s wildlife, and supporting students in making informed choices about their future fields of specialization.

We recently finished a major renovation of the Institute’s building. We are gradually settling in, installing modern equipment in the laboratories, and furnishing offices with everything required for effective work.

Our Institute needs young specialists, which is why we hope that zoology departments at the country’s universities will be reinstated and that scientific organizations engaged in biodiversity conservation will benefit from an influx of new talent!

This event was made possible thanks to cooperation with the Young Scientists Club under the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology at Al-Farabi KazNU.

We look forward to meeting with students again!
