We invite you to participate in the International Scientific Conference “Current Status and Prospects for the Conservation of Biodiversity of the Western Tian Shan”, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the first state nature reserve in Central Eurasia – the Aksu-Zhabagly State Nature Reserve.
The Conference will feature presentations and discussions on fundamental and applied issues concerning the current status and future prospects for biodiversity conservation in the Western Tian Shan, preservation of its ecosystem and species diversity, as well as the role of protected areas in biodiversity conservation at regional and global levels.
Conference organizers: RSE “Institute of Zoology” of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan; RSU “Aksu-Zhabagly State Nature Reserve” of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan; RSE “Institute of Botany and Phytointroduction” of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan; Kazakhstan National Committee of the UNESCO Programme “Man and the Biosphere” (MAB).
Dates: November 11–13, 2026
Venue: Institute of Zoology, 93 Al-Farabi Ave., Almaty, Republic of Kazakhstan.
Working languages: Kazakh, Russian, English.
Format: Hybrid (offline and online).
Forms of participation:
– plenary presentation (20 minutes);
– oral presentation in a sectional session (10 minutes);
– poster presentation;
– participation with publication.
Main conference topics:
- Current status and prospects for the conservation of the fauna of the Western Tian Shan;
- Current issues in the study and conservation of the flora of the Western Tian Shan;
- Issues of species and ecosystem diversity conservation in protected areas.
Proposals for plenary presentations, symposia, and round tables are welcome.

- “Biodiversity Monitoring in Protected Areas”;
- “Impact of Anthropogenic Factors on Biodiversity”;
- “Current Issues in Biodiversity Conservation of the Aksu-Zhabagly Nature Reserve”;
- “UNESCO Biosphere Reserves in Central Eurasia”.
IMPORTANT DATES:
By April 1, 2026 – submission of proposals for plenary presentations, symposia, and round tables.
By April 6, 2026 – submission of participation applications.
By August 16, 2026 – submission of presentation materials.

Publication of materials
A conference proceedings volume is planned for publication by the time of the international conference.
