Objectives of the Council of Young Scientists:
To unite young scientists of the Institute of Zoology for joint activities aimed at developing scientific work, professional advancement, and career growth of young researchers and specialists of the Institute.
Tasks of the Council of Young Scientists:
- Dissemination, promotion, and exchange of information on scholarships, grants, foundations, support programs for young scientists and specialists, scientific and practical seminars, conferences, etc.
- Promotion of the latest achievements of science among young researchers.
- Facilitating the transfer of knowledge and experience from leading international and national scientists and research organizations to young researchers.
- Submitting proposals for improving the system of incentives for the scientific activities of young scientists.
- Establishing information exchange of knowledge and experience among young researchers.
- Development and implementation of events and programs promoting the involvement of young scientists in active professional and social activities.
- Organization of scientific and practical seminars, youth conferences, sports and other cultural events.
- Assistance in addressing professional and social issues of young scientists.
- Providing support to the administration in organizing and conducting scientific, practical, festive, and other cultural events.

- What research areas are represented at the Institute of Zoology?
Currently, research at the Institute of Zoology is conducted in the following areas: theriology, ornithology (including the study of bird migration), herpetology, entomology, arachnology, malacology, parasitology, and palaeozoology. - How can access to full-text journal databases be obtained?
The Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan provides subscriptions to full-text journal databases for its subordinate organizations. To obtain the necessary passwords, one should contact the Scientific Secretary. - Which journals are recommended by KOKSON?
Since 2021, the requirements for journals recommended by KOKSON have changed; the updated list is available on the Committee’s website. - Is there an electronic library at the Institute of Zoology?
A number of electronic versions of the Institute’s publications and staff papers are available on the Institute’s website www.zool.kz in the “Publications” section. - Is there a doctoral program at the Institute of Zoology?
Yes. The Ministry annually allocates targeted places to its subordinate research institutes, including the Institute of Zoology. Doctoral training is carried out at universities. - Is it possible to undertake an internship at a major foreign research center?
Yes. Some internships are provided within research projects. In addition, since 2021, the program of 500 internships for scientists has been launched, allowing researchers to improve their qualifications at leading scientific centers worldwide. - How are animal studies conducted in their natural habitats?
Research is conducted during expeditionary fieldwork using off-road vehicles; staff are accommodated in tents or scientific field stations. - What new technologies are used in research at the Institute of Zoology?
In recent years, modern technologies such as camera traps, satellite transmitters, geologgers, and GIS and remote sensing technologies have been used at the Institute. - Is there a trade union at the Institute?
Yes, a trade union operates at the Institute. - How can one participate in a research project and can a young scientist become a project leader?
Since 2020, the Ministry has annually announced competitions for grant funding, including those for young scientists. Researchers who meet the requirements may submit and obtain a project. Alternatively, a young scientist may join a research group. In addition, a number of international foundations support research in biodiversity, where a young scientist may act either as a project leader or as a project executor. - Does the Institute of Zoology have collections or a museum?
The Institute houses one of the largest collections in Central Asia. It includes representatives of various animal groups, allowing for an understanding of the biodiversity of Kazakhstan and enabling research in different areas. Until 2010, the Nature Museum located in the Gylym Ordasy building was also affiliated with the Institute of Zoology; it was later reassigned to that organization. - Are molecular genetic methods currently used in Kazakhstan for animal research?
Molecular genetic research methods are widely used in Kazakhstan. Over the past decade, active work in this field has been carried out at the Institute of Zoology on certain animal groups in collaboration with specialists from Russia, China, and the USA. In the near future, the opening of a laboratory for conducting such research at the Institute is planned.
