The aim of this conference is to share experiences and successful practices for human-wildlife conflict resolution in Central Asia in order to develop effective measures to address the problem.
The Regional Conference “Human-wildlife conflicts in Central Asia” is organized by the Association for the Conservation of Biodiversity of Kazakhstan (ACBK), the Michael Succow Foundation and Institute of Zoology of MSHE of RK within the framework of the regional program “Integrative and Climate-sensitive Land Use in Central Asia” (ILUCA) implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of the German Government. The conference is supported by the Committee of Forestry and Wildlife of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The conference will take place in Almaty, Kazakhstan, 5-6 March 2025.
Target group: scientists, staff of nature conservation governmental structures and NGOs, protected areas, specialists in the field of agriculture and land-use working in Central Asia.
Topics of the conference:
- Human-wild ungulates conflict;
- Human-wild predatory mammals conflict;
- Legislative bases of conflict resolution;
- Modern approaches to human-wildlife conflict resolution;
- Interaction with media and social networks;
- Interaction of protected area staff with local communities to resolve human-wildlife conflicts
Abstracts are announced for the conference in the specified directions. Abstracts should be written in English or Russian and should not exceed 500 words, including the title of the abstracts, surnames and initials of the authors, name of the organization. The selection committee keeps the right to reject an application. Applications are accepted until 20 January 2025 by e-mail to rustam.murzakhanov@succowstiftung.de, attached PDF file with the subject line “Human-wildlife conflict”. If abstracts are accepted, participants will have the opportunity to present their research papers during the conference. Information on the design of articles will be provided in the second newsletter. Full papers will be included in the conference proceedings.
The organizers will cover travel and accommodation expenses for a limited number of conference participants from Central Asia.
Working language of the conference: Russian. Consecutive interpretation will be provided for speakers in English.
