Congratulations to Marina Alexandrovna Chirikova, Deputy General Director for Science of the Institute of Zoology, on receiving the Nailya Bazanova Award!

The solemn ceremony for presenting the Academician Naylya Bazanova Awards to women researchers took place at the Gylym Ordasy building, at an event celebrating International Women’s Day. The awards were presented by Akhylbek Kazhigulovich Kurishbayev, President of the Board of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

A total of 48 leading women scientists and research staff, who have made a substantial contribution to advancing domestic science, received this high honor.

Naylya Orazghulkyzy Bazanova was a Distinguished Scientist of Kazakhstan, the first female academician in both Kazakhstan and Central Asia, and the founder of a new field of biology — the physiology of agricultural animals. She became the first woman in Kazakhstan to earn a Doctor of Biological Sciences (1945), become a Professor (1946), and be elected an Academician of the Kazakh SSR (1951).

In Kazakhstan, nearly 12,000 women engage in scientific work, accounting for 55.6% of all researchers. Each year, the number of women awarded academic degrees continues to grow.

According to the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, in 2024 Kazakhstani women published more than 3,100 articles in Web of Science and Scopus-indexed journals, of which over 1,400 were authored by women as first authors.

The special award of the National Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan, named for the first woman academician of Kazakhstan and Central Asia, Naylya Bazanova, was established to encourage further development of science.

We wholeheartedly congratulate Marina Alexandrovna on this high recognition of her contribution to the Institute of Zoology’s scientific work, and we wish her continued success!
