Staff members of the Laboratory of Hydrobiology and Ecotoxicology of the Institute of Zoology – Head of the Laboratory, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor E.G. Krupa, and Junior Researcher A.N. Kenzheeva – carried out a working trip from May 13 to 21, 2026 within the framework of the scientific and technical program BR24993060 “Development of an information system for maintaining the cadastre of wild animals of the Western Tien Shan”.

The main objectives of the working trip were:
- Revision of zooplankton samples and clarification of the taxonomic composition of problematic species at the A.N. Severtsov Institute of Ecology and Evolution of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Moscow).
- Participation in the V All-Russian scientific and practical conference with international participation “Current problems of crustacean studies” (Saint Petersburg).
- Expansion and strengthening of international scientific cooperation.

At the A.N. Severtsov Institute of Ecology and Evolution of the Russian Academy of Sciences, together with staff of the Laboratory of Ecology of Aquatic Communities and Invasions, PhD P.G. Garibyan and Dr. A.A. Kotov, a revision of collection and research materials on zooplankton was carried out. During the work, 11 samples were examined, consultations were obtained on diagnostic characters of representatives of the families Daphniidae, Chydoridae, Bosminidae, and Macrothricidae, and the identification of the species Chydorus sphaericus, Scapholeberis mucronata, Daphnia curvirostris, Diaphanosoma orghidani, and Macrothrix hirsuticornis was уточнена. In addition, experience was exchanged on issues related to the study of biodiversity of aquatic ecosystems and prospects for further scientific cooperation.
The scientific conference was held from May 18 to 20, 2026 at the Zoological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Representatives of the Institute of Zoology of the Republic of Kazakhstan presented two reports.
- E.G. Krupa delivered a plenary presentation titled “Fauna of Calanoida (Crustacea: Copepoda) of Kazakhstan”, presenting the results of long-term studies and summarizing data on species diversity of representatives of the order Calanoida in various water bodies of the country.
- Doctoral student A.N. Kenzheeva presented a poster “Planktonic crustaceans of water bodies of Southern Kazakhstan”, prepared jointly with her supervisor E.G. Krupa. According to the results of the poster competition, the work was recognized by the organizers and awarded third place.

In total, the conference program included about 100 presentations, including 9 plenary, 51 sectional, and 36 poster presentations with in-person participation. The topics covered a wide range of issues related to the study of crustaceans (Crustacea), an important group of aquatic organisms playing a key role in the functioning of aquatic ecosystems and serving as bioindicators of environmental conditions.
During the conference, meetings and scientific consultations were held with leading carcinologists: V.R. Alekseev (ZIN RAS), A.A. Kotov (IPEE RAS), and N.A. Berezina (ZIN RAS). Issues of systematics, biodiversity, and ecology of crustaceans, as well as prospects for further cooperation, were discussed.
The working trip made it possible to уточнить the taxonomic status of a number of problematic species, present the results of Kazakhstani research to the international scientific community, expand professional contacts, and strengthen academic cooperation with leading scientific centers of the Russian Federation.
