On September 9–12, 2026, the International Scientific Conference “Bird Migration in Asia in the 21st Century: Results, Challenges and Prospects” was held to mark the 60th anniversary of the Shaqpaq Ornithological Station of the Institute of Zoology of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Scientists and specialists from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, China, Russia, Germany, the United States, Israel, Italy, Switzerland, Sweden and France participated in the conference both in person and online.
The scientific program included presentations on bird migration, long-term bird ringing and population monitoring, GPS and satellite tracking, migration corridors, conservation of rare species and international cooperation.
A special part of the conference was the field program at the Shaqpaq Ornithological Station, where participants learned about methods of capturing, ringing and studying migratory birds.
Founded in 1966, the Shaqpaq Station has been continuously monitoring bird migration along one of the key flyways of Central Asia for 60 years.
